About Us
Taking Care of Business
Beginning with our first office in San Luis Obispo in 1948 to our current team of 15 lawyers serving thousands of clients at locations in San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and Paso Robles, our connection to the people and businesses of the Central Coast runs deep.
The Andre, Morris & Buttery business acumen began with Jose Jorge Andre, who came to California and opened a grocery store in San Luis Obispo in 1902. During the Depression, he allowed charge accounts to go largely unpaid, a kindness that kept many families fed in hard times. He was known for his compassion and generosity. This tradition of community spirit carries through today at Andre, Morris & Buttery.
His sons, Peter and George, formed the Andre & Andre law partnership in an upstairs apartment at 1130 Garden Street in 1948. Clients were farmers, dairymen and cattlemen. Peter wore a cowboy hat with his business attire to work and was known as "the lawyer in the Stetson hat."
Over the years, Andre, Morris & Buttery has continued to change and grow with the community. AMB began shifting its focus in the 1970s and 1980s, moving away from general practice to business law. Instead of criminal cases and divorces, the firm began specializing in business and real estate transactions, as well as litigation, along with its traditional estates and trusts practice - a visionary direction far different from that of most local attorneys.
New attorneys joined the firm, bringing new expertise for sophisticated clients seeking legal advice on complex business matters. The firm changed to Andre, Morris & Buttery under the leadership of Michael Morris, Jim Buttery, Dennis Law and Todd Mirolla. Because of their skills, clients no longer had to travel to the "big cities" for business advice. AMB offered them a high level of service that continues to expand today, covering complex employment law, environmental matters, mergers and acquisitions and other areas.
AMB invested in new technology, greatly enhancing the firm's ability to handle large and complex legal matters. AMB saw the advantage of new technology early on and continues to strive to remain on the leading edge of legal technology.
The firm added new offices in Paso Robles and Santa Maria as a way to continue to offer a higher level of service throughout the Central Coast. AMB looks forward to continuing to follow its tradition of taking care of business for years to come.
